Linha Verde (Green Line)

The Linha Verde is the official reporting hotline of IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources).
It is available nationwide and allows citizens to report cases of animal trafficking, illegal hunting, and other environmental violations.

Legislation

Federal Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Article 225 Paragraph 3 of Article 225 establishes that actions and activities considered harmful to the environment shall subject offenders to criminal and administrative sanctions.
Law No. 6,938/1981 The National Environmental Policy aims to preserve, improve, and restore environmental quality suitable for life. One of its principles is the monitoring and control of natural resource use.
Law No. 9,605/1998 Provides for criminal and administrative penalties resulting from acts and activities harmful to the environment, including wildlife trafficking, illegal deforestation, and pollution.
Law No. 9,784/1999 Regulates administrative procedures within the scope of the Federal Public Administration, ensuring transparency and due process in environmental enforcement.
Law No. 9,966/2000 Establishes measures for the prevention, control, and inspection of pollution caused by the discharge of oil and other harmful or hazardous substances into waters under Brazilian jurisdiction.
Law No. 13,123/2015 Regulates access to genetic heritage, protection of traditional knowledge, and benefit-sharing for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.
Decree No. 6,514/2008 Defines environmental infractions and administrative penalties, and establishes the federal administrative process for investigating environmental violations.
Decree No. 8,136/2002 Specifies the sanctions applicable to violations of regulations regarding the prevention, control, and monitoring of pollution caused by oil or other hazardous substances in national waters.
Decree No. 8,772/2016 Regulates Law No. 13,123/2015, governing access to genetic resources and traditional knowledge, as well as benefit-sharing to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable use.
IBAMA Normative Instruction No. 10/2012 Establishes procedures for investigating environmental administrative infractions, the imposition of penalties, appeal systems, and fine collection within IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources).
IBAMA Normative Instruction No. 19/2014 Sets forth guidelines and procedures for seizure, registration, and destination of wildlife, flora products, tools, vessels, or equipment confiscated as a result of environmental administrative violations.
