of Institute Raquel Machado
Each one of Institute Raquel Machado projects has in its DNA the desire to generate positive environmental and cultural impacts, so that our wildlife can live freely in Nature, in a healthy, non-suffering situation, free from human threats.
I. Porto Feliz/SP Nursery Maintenance Project
- We guarantee the wellbeing and proper conditions of animals rescued from trafficking that cannot be released back into the wild.
- Currently we are responsible for 150 animals in our nursery in Porto Feliz, São Paulo.
- Environmental education activities.
- Conservationist breeding site for the reproduction and soft release.
II. Santuário Reserve Project
- Protecting 250 hectares of savannah, 112 of which are RPPN (private natural heritage reserve), overlooking River Formoso, in Bonito.
- Monitoring macaw artificial nest boxes.
- Monitoring and researching wildlife.
- Animal rehabilitation and release.
- Restoring riparian forests.
III. Saci Reserve Project
- Protecting 178 hectares of Atlantic Rainforest, on the limits of the National Park of Serra da Bodoquena.
- Scientific research projects.
- Monitoring wild fauna.
- Wild animal rehabilitation and release.
IV. Rio Azul Project
Located in the South of the state of Para, in the Amazon Region. We implemented a conservation initiative in the area, having ecotourism as sustainability and social development anchors. This important ecologic corridor integrates Rivers Azul and São Benedito and connect with the Cachimbo Mountain.
V. Project Santa Sofia Reserve
- Carried out in the Santa Sofia Reserve, in the Pantanal region, it is part of the largest private conservation project in Brazil.
- Monitoring and research on local wildlife.
- Animal rehabilitation and release.
IV. Bonito Não Atropela (The city of Bonito does not run over animals)
- Plan of action to fight running over the fauna of Bonito, state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
- Transform Bonito into an action model in the fight against running over animals.
- Implement a mitigation plan through partnership with the Attorney General’s office and private companies.
- Implement 11 wildlife overcrossings to RECONNECT forest patches crossed by highways.
- Implement highway fencing between bridges to guide animals to cross highways through underpasses.
- Assisting, supporting and releasing wildlife after rehabilitation.
