SOU AMIGO DA FAUNA PROJECT
Each project at Instituto Líbio is born from a deep commitment to protecting wildlife.
With the support of strategic partners, we join forces to rehabilitate animals, preserve natural habitats, and keep Brazil’s biodiversity alive.
The “Sou Amigo da Fauna” Movement was created through the joint efforts of Instituto Líbio, Onçafari, SOS Pantanal, and AMPARA to build a more sustainable world, free from wildlife trafficking.
During a visit to southern Pará in 2020, Dr. Raquel Machado (dermatologist and president of Instituto Líbio) witnessed the devastating reality of predatory hunting and fishing in the Serra do Cachimbo region, where animals and their parts were being shipped indiscriminately in styrofoam boxes through local airports.
To change this scenario, the Institute joined forces with Onçafari, SOS Pantanal, and AMPARA Silvestre — organizations also alarmed by the increasing number of animals illegally removed from their habitats in the Amazon, considered the global epicenter of species trafficking. Together, they seek to engage public authorities, companies, and civil society in the protection of Brazil’s biodiversity.
