OLHOS DA MATA PROJECT

Each project at Instituto Líbio is born from a deep commitment to protecting wildlife.
With the support of strategic partners, we join forces to rehabilitate animals, preserve natural habitats, and keep Brazil’s biodiversity alive.

OLHOS DA MATA

Wildlife plays a vital role in ecological balance, regulating food chains, dispersing seeds, and indicating environmental health. However, human pressures such as habitat fragmentation, illegal hunting, roadkills, and land-use changes threaten the survival of many species, especially medium and large mammals that need vast territories.

In this context, monitoring fauna in Instituto Líbio’s reserves becomes a strategic conservation tool. Through camera traps and active search techniques, the project continuously tracks species presence, frequency, and behavior. These records help assess protected area effectiveness, identify emerging threats, and guide management strategies.

Beyond protection, Olhos da Mata contributes to scientific research, strengthened reserve management, and environmental education — mapping the richness of species and supporting long-term conservation planning.
