ADOPT MY TROOP AND JOIN US IN PROTECTING WILDLIFE
Did you know you can symbolically adopt a wild animal?
At Instituto Líbio, we rescue and shelter animals that have been victims of wildlife trafficking, illegal captivity, and mistreatment. Many of them can no longer return to nature — but they can still live with safety, dignity, and care.
Through your symbolic adoption, you help provide food, veterinary care, and quality of life for these animals.

Adopt the Lowland Tapir
Orelha is a gentle male tapir whose name (“Ear”) comes from an incident in his youth — he lost part of his ear during a fight with his father. For 17 years, he lived in a small concrete enclosure, without grass or a lake. When the facility closed due to financial hardship, the animals were relocated, and that’s when Orelha found a new home at the Instituto Líbio.
When the team arrived to pick him up, Orelha was infested with parasites, surviving only on dry corn, and in poor health. Upon arrival, he was timid and fearful, avoiding the lake during his first week. By the second week, his footprints appeared on the shore — the first sign of curiosity and recovery.
Today, two years after his rescue, Orelha swims freely across his lake and enjoys a 250 m² enclosure, where he finally lives with dignity, peace, and care.

Adopt the Parakeets (Brotogeris sp.)
Small, colorful, and social, parakeets (Brotogeris sp.) are among the main targets of illegal wildlife trade. Many arrive at the Instituto Líbio weakened and displaying stress-related behaviors after captivity. In Porto Feliz, they receive the necessary care to regain strength, confidence, and natural instincts, reinforcing the Institute’s commitment to protecting Brazil’s native birdlife.

Adopt the Coypu
Nick is a charismatic coypu, rescued as a tiny baby only a few weeks old, after being separated from his mother. He was found by the Projeto Capa team during their patrols along the Marginal Pinheiros cycle path in São Paulo. When taken to the Wildlife Management and Conservation Center (CeMaCAS), he was weak, undernourished, and in poor health.
Nick was bottle-fed and closely monitored by professionals until he fully recovered — then he joined the Instituto Líbio family. Now an adult, Nick is thriving in his enclosure, sharing space with Orelha the tapir. He enjoys a balanced diet, regular care, and loves digging burrows along the lake’s edge, where he spends his days in comfort and safety.
